ITV bought Friend reunited in 2005 by offering £120 million for the social networking site. It has been revealed recently that the Friend Reunited site will be put up for sale (http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2009/feb/15/itv-sells-friends-reunited) by the Chief at ITV Michael Grade.

The site helps people stay in touch with school and university friends and has branched out into genealogy, but there is currently no buyer in the sights. When ITV purchased Friends Reunited was most talked about social networking site in the UK. Two years later MySpace was the place to be seen, and now it is Facebook is the website of choice, and watch for Twitter which keeps gaining traffic and reputation.

With so many social networking sites falling out of favour in place of newer sites what about all those user profiles. With so many out of date unsed profiles sitting in these sites opens doors for potential identity theft. Consider social networking sites from a security point of view, its time to clean up all those unused profiles.
